Altered Book Box - Finnabair

Hi there,  I am really excited to say that I have ventured into the mixed media world when I decided to try and make something pretty of the old book box where we store our remote controls in our family room.  I never in my life thought that I will use black gesso...and I am really pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the process and how beautiful my box turned out.

I didn't take any photos while I was adding the waxes and pastes.  I have another one to complete and will take more photos of the process.

This is what it looked like before I started.  I covered the gold "pages" with masking tape and then covered the entire outside with black gesso.

I then applied some Finnabair white crackle paste through a stencil.  I repeated this on the spine and back of the book.

I then added chipboard swirls, gauze, doilies, metal pieces, flowers and melange art pebbles.

I then coated everything with black gesso, but I wasn't happy, it still needed some more texture.

I then added Finnabair art stones and mini art stones using some soft matt gel.  When it was dry I coated it again with black gesso.

I used Finnabair Art Alchemy Antique Brilliance in Mystic Turquoise and Metallique Bronze Age wax for the background of the front as well as for the spine and for the back.

To bring the different elements forward I used Metallique Waxes in Rich Copper, Aged Brass and White Gold.

I then applied some rust and patina paste around the center piece to create a rusted patina effect.

I will be back soon to show you the process on the other book box that I am still busy with.  Thank you for visiting my blog today ♥♥
