The last post of 2013 (photo heavy)

Can you believe that this is the last day of 2013?
We will never be able to have a second of what has passed back.
Only memories remain.
I hope that you have good memories.
That you captured loads of memories through the lens and with the pen.

Here are some of the memories of Christmas spent with my favourite people in the world.
Christmas eve was spent with Kobus Jr and his family.
We arranged for Father Christmas (Santa) to hand out the gifts to the children
Ouma Ansie (my mom) also sat on Santa's lap ;-)
Stefan was scared of the man with the white beard.
He and Juan preferred dancing on the table.

Christmas lunch was at out home
My purple haired girl blowing bubbles for the little ones to catch.
 Sweet child of mine.
 Another sweet child of mine.
How come it is always the cheapest gifts that give the most pleasure
I am very happy with the memories I managed to capture.
So blessed to have these little ones in my life
Sitting and watching the little ones antics.
 Wynand and Nadia
 Me and my love
The pool was the main attraction falling
Yummy cold meats and salads under the Lapa
Juan is such a busy child...this is one of the few photos that wasn't just a blur.
Wynand entertaining the kids in the pool
 Kobus Jr and Lache
 Bianca and Wynand
Leane dared Wynand to jump from the rocks.
 Soft hearted Lukas...
 ...and his cousin Dewan
Much fun was had by all
 My little wild one
Giving his mom a heart attack around the pool
 Love this one
I guess this two little ones will still get into all kinds of mischief together.

I am going to be honest with you and tell you that I haven't read any blogs for the past two weeks.  My reader was overflowing and so very overwhelming that I marked all posts as "read".  I have had to make a decision lately that I will comment on the blogs of those who leave some love on mine...or else it all just becomes too time consuming.

I wish you a wonderful New Years Eve and will be back again tomorrow to share my word for 2014.

Scenes from the Santa Shoebox party at the Mission

I would love to show you some photos that I took at the Santa Shoebox party last Saturday.  The Santa Shoebox Project  is spearheaded by the founder of Kidz2Kidz, Dee Boehner, the Santa Shoebox Project originated in Cape Town in 2006, with national coordinator Irene’ Pieters joining in 2007. Many of you know of the project, are involved in the organisation of it and pledge boxes each year.   I know many of you are actively involved in either the organisation or pledging boxes.

I want to share with you the other side of things.
The happy faces of the little ones who receive these gifts.

We have a rule at the Mission....nobody opens gifts until everybody have received theirs...if we don't do this chaos reigns.  You can feel the excitement as they wait.  When every one has a gift they all open it at the same time.

Thank you for giving this children a day to remember.  Thank you for the love and care shown in the packing of each box.

My family...the greatest gift.

I haven't been very active in the cyber world.  This is due to a number of things that are just overwhelming me at the moment.

  • Things are hectic at the mission.  Why the need is always greater at this time of year is beyond me.  Maybe it is just that people don't want to be alone during the festive season.
  • The audit of our books are still ongoing :(
  • The loss of the greatest president of our time, Nelson Mandela.
This past weekend I spent some time just catching my breath and being creative.  It is always medicine to my soul when I am playing with paint, paper and glue.  I often start with an ending in my minds eye that never materializes...but I am better once I have lost myself in just doing what I love so much.

I finished two pages this weekend.  Both for Color, Story Inspiration.  I love working with photos of my precious children and grandchildren.  I love digging into my stash and finding what I need for the different challenges.  I am proud to say that this year I have been on a scrappy diet.  I made up my mind at the beginning of the year to only buy cardstock, glue and tools.  I have to admit that my stash has diminished remarkably.

Here is my layout for the latest challenge:  CSI 102
Supplies used:  Cardstock:  Bazzill; Patterned papers:  Little Yellow Bicycle (Babysaurus and Snuggle Bug)  Orange owl paper: Dream street papers:  Circles cut with Silhouette on Silhouette chipboard, Dinosaurus, circles and CUTE title:  Little Yellow Bicycle (Babysaurus); Gold stars: stash; Tree: Pebbles; Quote: Kaisercraft; Other:  Gesso and a stencil.

The photo is a selfie taken by my daughter-in-law.  I tried to keep the embellishments simple.
Love the button border.
I matted all my patterned papers with black cardstock.  I love how it turned out.

I hope you had a good weekend...if you are in South Africa...a LONG weekend.  I hope to catch up on my blog reading soon.
