Giving thanks...

Today I had one of those mornings.  I woke up sad.  I felt discouraged.  The sadness seemed to flavour everything...even my first cup of coffee didn't taste as good as usual. Our early morning devotions were even clouded with my sadness.  I had a headache.  And too much to do.  I wanted to go back to bed and wake up tomorrow.

I knew that I had a choice.  I could continue and have a party for one or I could pull myself together. But how?  Then  I remembered that I commented on Laura's post that I am already too far behind with posting gratitude posts this late in the month.  The perfect way to get out of this pit.  So here goes.

  1. I am thankful that we have been blessed with the most divine weather this past week.  Sunny 25+ degrees and no wind.  Unheard of in Port Elizabeth.
  2. I am thankful for my 3 children, 2 children-in-law and 6 grandchildren.  They are my favourite people to spend time with.
  3. I am thankful for my husband of 34 years.  We have our ups and downs but I know that he will always be my best friend and my safe place.
  4. I am thankful that I am a child of God....and I know that He has my back.  I know that even when I feel sad like today, He loves me unconditionally.  He is my hope and my future.
  5. I am thankful that after 8 years of chronic pain the neurologist found the pain blocker that works for me and for the past year my life has been relatively pain free.
  6. I am thankful for people in my life that accept me for who I am and love me unconditionally warts and all.
How am I feeling?  So thankful, I am blessed in so many ways.  Thank you Shayne and Laura for inspiring me to focus on my many blessings.

"God smiles when we praise and thank Him continually.  Few things feel better than receiving heartfelt praise and appreciation from someone else. God loves it, too… An amazing thing happens when we offer praise and thanksgiving to God.  When we give God enjoyment, our own hearts are filled with joy"  ~Rick Warren

  2. Great things to be thankful for!
Noticing that these things (except for no 5), does not cost you money!

    1. Thank you for that reminder my friend. Our daily work at the mission is sometimes an uphill battle...and it an become a very heavy burden. I must continually remind myself that I can accomplish nothing in my own strength.

  6. It's hard to see the happy/good/blessings of our lives when we feel down/sad. I'm so glad you were still able to easily find so many things to be thankful for. Life is good :)

    1. Ah Mel, to get to that stage of life where we can live in constant gratitude. I am working on getting an art journal started...maybe it's theme should be "Giving thanks". Now there is a thought.

  8. I love your list :)

Sorry you were down. I find the normal things like a massage, buying something, don't work. It's the things we need and crave deep down, like a genuine talk with hubby, quality time with kids, nurturing yourself (book/ scrapping/ tea :)), etc.

I always think of you when I hear this song (don't ask me why!).

Do you have that CD? It's one of my favourites!!!

    1. Thank you for the song Marcia. I don't have that CD but will look out for it at CUM. My hubby and I have been so busy lately that it feels as if we are living past each other...that is something that needs fixing.

  11. Hi Lynette, Thanks for the raw honesty of this post. I find that most people blog only the "good" things and their lives look so picture perfect ... I love that you had the courage to share your sadness with us and then also how you overcame that ... Just what I needed to hear today ... the devil must be out there with the sadness bug trying to get to all of us!!! Let's stand together and not let him win!!!

  13. We are emotional beings and so feelings come and go, the thing is to rise above feelings that are negative.. sadness is not a sin, we can feel sad for lots of reasons, loss of someone/something dear, situations we see around us, but I think when I remember that no matter what I am precious to God and there is nothing that can separate His love for me, this is always reason to be thankful and being thankful helps to rise the positive mood.. and then sometimes when I am down, a really good worship song sung really loud and letting the tears fall helps me too!! Sending you love from over here!!

  16. It's difficult to stay positive all the time. :( Sometimes life just gets you down. I think what you've done is great... we all need to take stock of all the great things in our lives sometimes. I am 'a glass half full' kind of person, but I get too emotional sometimes, that I forget to be thankful for the good things. Thanks for reminding me. xx I hope things are looking much better today. :)

  20. Strangely enough, I think you are human ... (said in a nice way) .. yes, many blessings are around us, but sometimes without going through those moments that are darker than others, we cannot appreciate what we do have and how much we are truly blessed... send warm hugs your way...x

  21. So awesome that you chose to draw from the gratitude draw instead of opening the sadness one further..... Many hugs and blessings sent your way! ;-)
