Happy 2013...

...to all my friends in the computer.  I wish you peace that surpasses all understanding...a peace that heals, renews and restores...and joy  that runs deep within your being.

This year I wasn't considering a word for the year...but this year my word found me again. The last few days I had a lot of time to reflect on 2012 and how fleeting it was...my word for 2012 was Embrace.  After my father passed away at the beginning of January last year my dream was to embrace all of life and what it brings...the good, the bad, the happy and the sad. Often life was just one big rush and instead of embracing I clung on for dear life :-)  I am sure that you know just what I mean.

I love how this poster shows that simplify is just the beginning to more joy.

This year I want to Simplify my life in all ways.  Over the years, with the children living at home for various periods of time I was left with a remarkable amount of clutter.  Those who have adult children will know exactly what I mean.  They move out and just dump what they no longer need or want at home.  I am left with two bedrooms with cupboards that are overflowing from this clutter.  It was just too much trouble to clean out and slowly but surely my drawers and other cupboards became cluttered and disorganized.   So in order for me to Simplify my life I will first need to seriously declutter  and then I need to organize (shudder....never...ever did I think I will use that word)  my life going forward.

The decluttering will include deciding which relationships to hang onto and which to let go.  Sometimes we have people that are social vampires hanging onto us and sapping all our energy from us.  Sometimes our past draws us and thinking about it brings back old hurts and this is usually quickly followed by feelings of bitterness and before you know it...your joy and peace have left the building.

Today, on this day 1 January 2013 I bought myself a good sized diary to plan, set goals and even do menu planning.  I wouldn't call it a new years resolution....I seriously consider this the only possible lifestyle change I NEED to make at this point of my life.  I waste way too much time rushing from one crisis to the other at work...and when I get home tired at the end of each day I never know what to make my family for supper.  Better planning will make my life simpler and easier.

So...how are you?  Do you have New Years resolutions?  Do you have one little word this year?

xx

  3. Lynette I have also chosen the word embrace.

This year is going to be a year of so many new things as Deon and I are well and truly on our own in terms of generating our income.

I to have decided to let go of all friendships that do not add value to my life.

I can't believe how much we are both thinking the same things.

Hope 2013 is everything you want and pray for.

  5. I don't usually do the word of the year, but this year I think I will, my word should be "Do".

I started simplifying last year, and need to carry on with that - but "do" works there too.

  6. Happy 2013! I LOVE your word and I can promise you that you will feel lighter once you declutter. Only advice that I will give is to take it slowly. One step at a time. One area at a time.
My word for 2013 = RESTORE. I will blog about it a bit later. My word just finds me every single year too. Isn't it amazing?

  7. Happy New Year Lynette! A lovely photo and good word. I agree that simple is best. It is so important to slow down and enjoy the good in each day. The diary sounds like a good plan. I'm a list person. ;)

  8. Oh I did consider exactly the same word! But then on the day before Christmas " embrace" came to me, just out of the blue. I totally forgot it was yours this year!

  10. I am so with you on all the points here Lynette. And I should also need a major declutter around here. I am hanging on to things that fill up my space and I feel stressed out. But then I think about how much I love some of those things and it gets hard!! You have chosen a really good word for 2013. I hope this year will bring you a lot of what you want!!

  11. Happy New Year Lynette. My word is 'Organise' and my house and life also needs a re-hash but one thing that I took up a couple of years ago was a weekly menu. I have not looked back, evryone in the family gets to choose a meal for the week and then I make my shopping list to make sure my larder is stocked in advance. Saves so much time and stress instead of getting to the evening and trying to think of a meal last minute. Hope it works for you too.

  12. Happy New Year! I love your word and I think my word could be learn.... I have just got a new phone and man it is soo involved compared to my old one... and life is all about learning.. gota keep my brain going, learning about growing older and what that means to me, so yeah, that would be my word I reckon..
and I so agree with you about people, I have had some really high maintenance friends who drained me each time I was with them, so I had to make decisions to limit my time with them for my health sake.. so I understand what you are saying there too.. I do hope this year is a really good year for you!!

  16. I love that you wrote your word in the sand, haha just like mine in the snow. We think alike at times my friend!!

What a great word for you, love how this one word can be a part of so many things in your life. It's a useful word that will bring so much calm/peace/clean to your life.

Good luck with the decluttering, I know it's hard, have done my fair share and must do a little more of it again this year. I reallllly want my house to function better and be organzied for all of us.

YIPPPEE for the new journal and for writing a meal plan down for yourself. It will be sooooo helpful and eas the stress of dinnertime. I PROMISE YOU!!
I'm actually doing a journal/cookbook now too. My daughter got me the newest Rachael Ray book, A YEAR IN MEALS and it inspired me to start that for my family. Will post on blog soon, maybe it will inspire you. I need to do my montly meal plans again, makes life so much easier.

Wishing you a very happy, healthy, simplified, love, laughs, kindness, peaceful year!! Thanks so much for your friendship! HUGS!

  18. Oh goodness all of you with your words are confusing me :)

I read Marcias word for last year and liked that BUT then after Julia's post I liked organize and then read your post and simplify sounds better!

LOl clearly I need to work some more!

  19. Now that's a good idea to write in the sand. I will remember for Ballito :)

I love your word - and the offspring words declutter and organise :)

Simplify was my 2009 word - that was the year of being pregnant and doing nothing but keeping the babies in and alive as long as possible!

Shout if you need any help - my special talents are organising :)

  20. I like your word for 2013.
My word is 'kindness'. I want to be kinder to others and that includes myself too. Last year I pushed myself to constantly do more and I nearly had a breakdown, so this year I need to be kinder to myself and remember that life is worth living. Not just working all the time.

  21. Beautiful and thought provoking post! I am still considering my word for 2013, but I think it will be 'gift'. I want to see the world and my life in a new way this year. I want to realize that everything is a gift from Him and a reflection of His love for us! Thank you for sharing ~

  23. I do not have a word nor a resolution. I did buy a nice journal. One reason was to track important information. The main reaso is to keep track of events because I am making albums for my daughter and daughter in law for Christmas.

Best wishes and I pray 2013 will be better for you.

  25. What a fantastic word for the New Year! I did not choose a new word this year or last year but I did make a choice to make more lists in order to get more done and I joined a few organizational challenges which I am already loving. This one is great for the home: http://www.home-storage-solutions-101.com/storage-solutions-blog.html I hope to have my home organized by the end of 2013 with a little help from them. :) So happy for you and your choice to simplify - you deserve it!!! :)

  26. Doing a quick catch up on the blogs & need to use your post as a way of structuring mine! My word is WISDOM and it's already had a remarkable effect on my life in this short time!! Simplify is a great word. I already have the clutter problem with 4 big kids, and a house that isn't big enough for us all, and dread the thought of sorting and purging but it must be done - good luck with yours too!
