How easily do you change your hair stylist?

Updated:  Sorry, it seems my post was not very clear.  The top picture is the back of my hair right now;-D
Me?  Not easily.  I have been putting off the dreaded appointment until my regrowth was pretty bad! And where did all the gray hair come from?  Does that happen over night?  It feels like it.  This is what my hair looks like in the "very forgiving" indoor light...it is actually a tad lighter than it looks like here.

The truth is that I have been with the same hair stylist since for ever. She knows what I like, what I don't like and when I tell her to cut two millimeters....that is exactly what she does.  Most of you will know that you can normally tell the stylist what you want in detail and then they go off and do just what they want to.  Over the years I have gone..
..from a blond primary school child.
...to curls when hormones kicked in...
...oh my goodness...that was me too...angora goat?
Then the hair was tamed into a bob in the late 70's.

...and back into... Ouch...the BIG hair perms of the 80's.
From short and blond...to bright "heart stopping" red.

...to very blond in 2007...which I said "never again".

So many years...so many colours....so many styles!  Yet this remains the one thing that makes me the most nervous.  A tad crazy, don't you think.  Anyhoo...my dear stylist of many years have decided to marry, have a baby and emigrate to Ireland.  So today I visited a stylist that came highly recommended by her.  Thing is we had a slight miss communication...so when the foils came off...I was platinum blond.  She loved it...and I hated it so she quickly put in some dark foils to fix the problem.  The result was that I walked out quite a few shades blonder than I would normally be...but with a fabulous cut!  When I have to colour again we would go darker...me thinks.

Have you had some hair raising (pardon the pun) experiences with your stylist?

  1. ha ha....this did make me laugh! I usually last 6 to 9 months inbetween cutting and colouring for the very same reason!
I've been in the UK over 10 years now, and still haven't had a cut and colour I can say I was truly happy with.

  4. LOVED this post & I love blond hair - probably because mine is dark brown! I think your hair looks very lovely ;-D I have had to change stylists over the years what with them moving, me moving, etc, but fortunately I'm never too bothered if it's not exactly what I was after as I quite like switching things up!

  5. I love my stylist, I just sit in the her chair and say whatever you think. She know what suits me and how I like it and what I can do with it.
IS the last pic of you the latest hairdo...? If so, I like it too.

I love the varity of styles and colors that you showed us. I was just talking about going alburn at lunch. It is very blond now and needs to be redone. Not sure what I am doing yet.

  14. I think your hair looks stunning! A warm rich colour.

About hair raising stories - lets just say I finished school in 1989 and at my matric dance I had very short very permed hair - NOT a good look. I want to burn all the photos - but then the purple eye make- makes it all seem better NOT!!!!

  15. Your hair looks great!! NO! you are not the only one, who is nervous going to the hairdresser, I am a nervous customer come to that, I usually "judge" the stylist by her own hair, when i see her and it seems like a chemical reaction took place on her head, then i leave!!
Currently, I am happy with my stylist, she cuts perfectly and my foils comes out beautiful everytime.

  16. Hi L - your hair is super cool and think the new hairdresser is doing a wonderful job ;-)
I'm also going to a new hairdresser in a few weeks - eek - always scary!

  17. I think your hair looks fantastic right now. Absolutely fabulous. I love my stylist - my previous one I had for years, I would guess about 12 or so. Then she stopped working, sold her salon. I got a recommendation from my cousin's wife who always has gorg hair - and I have stuck to her (Mariette) now for about 5 years.

  18. I like your hair!
I went to the same girl for 11 years. It started out that she was wonderful. My highlights were always perfect. Then we got into a bad routine where I would explain what I wanted and leave without it. Visit two (at my regular 6-8 week appt.), I'd explain again and get the perfect hair cut. Vist 3 eight weeks later would require "just shape it up" and I'd leave with too many layers and nothing like I went in with. I'd be miserable until Visit 4 and at that point would get it cut quite a bit to even out the length so it could grow out more evenly and then the cycle would restart. I actually went through that a few years. Then I quit going. The uncomfortable part is that she still cuts my husband's hair! She's wonderful on his hair though.
I am happy with the man I go to now. He listens and I get what I want every time.
    Sorry to ramble!

  19. I love the layers in your current pic :) You have gone through many hairstyles! I went through a perming stage when I was in my early teens and a few years before. have chopped it off as a kid and grown it back again. But as an adult I haven't really changed my hair that much...maybe I should?

  20. I love the color! It looks fantastic (and definitely not blond)! Sorry you lost your hair stylist. But glad the at least the cut was perfect!

  21. LOL funny! You are gorgeous with any hair style :) I love the "through the years". It's so hard switching stylists. I've been here 6 years and still haven't found THE one. I keep switching. Glad you like your cut . . . at least the color can be fixed :)

  22. I LOVE the blonde!! But you have to be comfortable. I've gone dark once and said never again. Same with short hair for me. My aunt is a hair stylist so I always had my hair done by her. Then I joined the Army and moved across the country. My seven years in the Army, I never found a hair stylist was happy with. I hated my hair for pretty much all of those seven years. I even went to a fancy, super expensive salon and walked away disappointed. So, needless to say, I am SO happy to be near (5 hrs away) from my Aunt again! :o)

  23. Interesting, all the hair styles!
I also had the perm and the "angora goat"! ;-)

I love changing hair stylists, and mine is usually influenced by price as well. I never go that short, so I have never had a bad hair experience that couldnt be fixed!
