Busy, busy weekend

It is Monday and somehow I want the weekend to start right now! On Saturday Angus Buchan spoke at our sports stadium...and it was totally sold out....yay for the Christians of Port Elizabeth. Anyway...Kobus Jr and Lache wanted to go, so I offered to look after Leane. So she came to stay with Ouma for the weekend.

Oh my! I must admit she is a tiny 14 month old dynamo...very, very busy. So by Saturday evening this Ouma was totally wasted. I have forgotten that a little one like that should not be left out of your sight for 1 minute...that is all it took...1 minute....for Leane to find Rattex in the broom closet and stuff 3 pellets into her mouth. After digging them out of her mouth and then feeding her salt water (as per the instructions on the box) to induce vomiting...I don't know who was more traumatised...this Ouma or my little girl.

Sunday morning the sun was out and it was a glorious day. We decided that an outing would be the ideal thing. So off we went to Homeleigh Farm, a touch farm close to our home. Here Leane could run free, feed the animals and use up all the energy that little ones that age have. Wynand and Nadia came along with Christian and Lukas...and the kids had a ball.
This apple went with her all the way...she was not going to share it with anyone!
She called everything a here is a large "woof".
Christian hugging a horse.
The teletubby family....:)
And off she goes...she reminds me so much of her daddy at that age...I just had much more energy!
And off she goes again...
My daughter in law, Nadia with my mom.
Sticking fingers into the goat's mouth.
Christian trying to catch a goose.
Bunny hugging!
More bunny hugging.
Oupa and Lukas.
Daddy Wynand and Lukas.
Do you think she is enjoying the ice cream?
What does that little face!

Personal Scrapper Croptoberfest L.O.A.D challenge

Personal Scrapper has a great challenge this month. It basically comes down to doing a layout per day through October...therefore 31 layouts for the month. Challenges are posted daily. I only got back from our vacation in Plettenberg bay on the 6th and then had to play "Catch up" at work. I started scrapping today and I am hoping to catch up on the days that I missed the scrap. I usually do 2-pagers, but I have now gone through my photos and chose the singles so that I can save a bit of time and do the layouts I always leave for last. I will be updating this blog throughout the month and adding what I have completed. So far the challenges were as follows:

1. Buttons page - My best side
This layout should leave you in no doubt as to my favourite side of the!

2. Circles - Alfa GTV
Kobus always wanted an Alfa GTV, in 1991 het bought two GTV's for the bargain price of R5000. This is one of the Alfas after Kobus lovingly restored it to its former glory. I used my August Personal Scrapper featured October Afternoon paper.

3. Paper Piecing - Teddy and MeI probably would never have done this layout...I find paper piercing very time consuming...but now I am glad I did it. This layout was scraplifted from the layout by Serena Chlup in Issue 26 of Scrapping & Kie. She also provided the templated required for the paper piercing and "teddy" title.

4. Grandparents page - Fabulous OumaThis photo of my mom was taken at Wynand and Nadia's wedding in February. This proves that you can be pretty at 69!!! I used a Pagemaps October 2008 minimap for the layout.

5. Scrappers Choice - Adorable little mouse. This photo was taken in 1996 when Bianca was in Grade 1. The journalling reads: "I think all mommies want their little girls to do ballet. When Bianca was in grade 1 she also did ballet...She was a little mouse in the "Pied Piper"....Alas all the daily rehearsing was too much for my little mouse and she refused to even consider just taking a short break and then dancing again. She firmly put her foot down and said: NO MORE....

6. Use 3-4 photos - You make me laugh! These pics were taken in of my sons brought home a wig and they were clowning around with it.

7. Use this Becky Fleck sketch Here is my attempt. - Valentine's Ball 1994.This was Kobus Jr's first formal ball. I made him the floral waistcoat for the event. I have no idea who the girl is that went with him...and Lache will probably kill me when she sees that I am scrapping photo's of him and old girlfriends.

8. Use a list - Baby Boy Facts I took these photo's of my grandson, Lukas, last month. The layout was inspired by Marlize de Klerk's layout in Issue 26 of Scrapping & Kie. The EK Success "Ingredients" stickers was used as a list.

9. Use a Black/white photo - Worn out "Ouma" This layout was inspired by Melanie wordart on her website : Doing the photo in black and white was handy, because photos of me without makeup are most unflattering. This photo was taken the morning after Leane spent the night....see I am not used to being woken numerous times during the night....totally worn out!!!

10. Use cardstock only as a background - Falling for you
This layout was inspired by Wilna Furstenburg....the beautiful little falling hearts are one of her creations and I purchased and downloaded it....then cut it out and used it as accents. Leane is such a sweety...

11. Use scallops - Matric Dance 1997
These pictures were taken at my son, Kobus Jr's, Matric Dance(Prom) At last I got to scrap it. This was a scraplift of Lee Ann Scott's layout in Issue 17 of Scrapping & Kie.

12. Birthday - Captain ChristianThis layout of Christian's pirates party was scraplifted and inspired by Marlize de Klerk (my favourite South African scrapper) published in Issue 20 of Scrapping & Kie.

13. Scrap a holiday (Christmas, Easter etc) Christmas 1993This really had me digging in shoeboxes for old pics. These photos were taken in 1993 when Kobus' mom and dad was still alive. Christmas with them every second year was a tradition. We would eat way too much, lounge around under the trees and play cricket.

14. Favourite things about Fall. We don't really have autumn traditions in South Africa so I chose to scrap photos taken during our recent vacation.

Every year when we go to Plettenberg Bay, I just have to go to Birds of Eden...I love it there. This year the men opted to go and play golf, so Ansie (my sister) and I went to the bird sanctuary. This cheeky cockatoo first tried to take a chunk out of my sunglasses then went for of the studs on my bag.

15. My hometown - Port Elizabeth TodayOur challenge for today is to scrap our hometown. Kim Watson from posted a challenge using this sketch by Ronda of OLW.... the word "Today" has to be in the layout. So here is my attempt. 16. Use an older Personal Scrapper kit and finish it.
I used my May 2007 Personal Scrapper kit for this, it was Cosmo Cricket Dutch Girl...but I did not finish all of the kit. This photo is of Kobus and I and baby Lukas.

17. Sport : Pezula Golfing weekend.
Kobus went with a group of guys to go play some of the most spectacular golf courses, Pezula, Simola and Goose Valley.

18. Scrappers Choice - I'm having a bad hair day.
This photo just begged to be scrapped. Leane is always so neat and tidy...and on this day her hair was unruly, little face dirty and bumps on the head.

19. Sketch challenge: Pre Primary Graduation -1995.

20. 4 Pictures on a page: Dolphin and whale watching.
My sister Ansie and I went whale watching at Plettenberg bay. It was amazing to get so close to this huge animals.

21. Scraplift the crop or the gallery.
Photo's of Kobus and I and Ansie and Willie taken in Plettenberg Bay.
22. Scrap something lost: First lost tooth.
The challege is to scrap about someone or something lost....then I remembered this photo taken when Christian pulled his first tooth.
23. Use 3's: Siblings.
My three children, Kobus, Wynand and Bianca. Photos taken on Wynand's wedding in December. We had to use thing in three. I used three photos, three printed papers, three flowers and three brads.

Other layouts that does not fit the challenge:

These layouts were all done using the Personal Scrapper May 2008 kit.
Some more old photo's that I am getting around at scrapping. The wordart is by Bethany Hicks and her blog is is already 19 and at an age where she does not want hugs and kisses...these pics make me remember the days where she still loved being close to me....I miss it. Wordart also by Bethany Hicks at These photos were taken when my sisters boys met my grandchildren Christian and Leane for the first time...they were so excited...usually there is no one their own they had a ball. As you have probably noticed I am somewhat of a Wordart Junky....this wordart is by Melanie at

Diet Wisdom

Now that Summer is just around the corner, it seems a few are getting more health conscious.
Here's some tips to help you out.

Q. I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc. Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU' RE NOT LISTENING!!! . Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO!!! Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A. Hey! ' Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. And remember: 'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride!!!' AND..... For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
CONCLUSION Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.
